TheBusinessCaseForSustainabilityBetter Organisations, in collaboration with Polish Business Link (PBLink), has developed “The Business Case for Sustainability”, an ebook designed to support business leaders in understanding how sustainability connects to business models, operations, and decision-making.

The publication reflects ongoing work with organisations navigating increasing pressure from market expectations, regulatory developments, and resource constraints. In this context, sustainability is approached not as a standalone initiative, but as part of how businesses design and adapt the way they create and deliver value.

Developed at the intersection of practice and applied research, the ebook is aimed at entrepreneurs, managers, and innovators seeking a structured but accessible entry point into sustainability. It combines explanation, examples, and practical guidance, focusing on how organisations can begin integrating sustainability into their existing activities, including how teams are engaged, decisions are made, and initiatives are developed collaboratively across the organisation.

The content is organised around several key areas:

  • an introduction to sustainability concepts and their relevance to business, including the People-Planet-Profit framework and the role of ecosystem services as underlying infrastructure for economic activity
  • an overview of how sustainability influences cost structures, customer expectations, regulatory exposure, and long-term viability
  • selected case examples illustrating how organisations have addressed sustainability challenges through changes in processes, products, and value chains
  • practical guidance on how to start, including small-scale experiments, stakeholder involvement, and iterative implementation
  • approaches to engaging employees and internal teams, recognising that sustainability initiatives often depend on participation, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration

A central theme of the ebook is that sustainability can be developed through incremental, design-led actions rather than large-scale transformation programmes. As outlined in the publication, organisations can begin by identifying relevant challenges within their operations and testing focused solutions through experimentation and co-creation, involving employees, teams, and stakeholders in shaping and implementing initiatives.

The collaboration with Polish Business Link reflects a shared effort to strengthen the business ecosystem by providing practical resources that support organisations at different stages of their sustainability journey, including both strategic considerations and organisational practices such as team engagement and internal collaboration. By combining business engagement with applied insight, the initiative contributes to translating sustainability from concept into operational practice.

“At Better Organisations, our work focuses on helping organisations design business models and value chains that are both viable and sustainable" - said Witold Wisniewski, Founder of Better Organisations. “This ebook brings together that perspective in a format that is accessible for leaders looking to take their first steps or structure their approach".

The ebook is available to business leaders seeking a clearer understanding of sustainability and its implications for their organisation.
